Creating Infinite Beauty - Kate MacDowell

I LOVE these porcelain sculptures by artist Kate D. MacDowell. She pulls inspiration from environmental degradation, mythology, art history and other cultural touchstones.

Kate states that, “I see each piece as a captured and preserved specimen, a painstaking record of endangered natural forms and a commentary on our own culpability.” She also says about her work, "In my work this romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact on the environment. These pieces are in part responses to environmental stressors including climate change, toxic pollution, and gm crops. They also borrow from myth, art history, figures of speech and other cultural touchstones."

Each piece is hand sculptured out of porcelain. I absolutely mindlessly love this work! Seriously I want each piece. Each one is so detailed and intricate. They are so raw and ghostly. Some of them are a bit disturbing but that simply makes me love them even more. I love art that makes you feel, that moves you, and wow I am moved!!! G

Beautiful Dresses

Since it is so cold and miserable here, deep in the misty chills of winter, I have a sudden craving to wear a pretty little dress. Probably because I have been so bundled up in warm winter woolies, my body wants to be feel the sun on its skin. So I found some these beautiful dresses from Asos.com today. Dear Photograph

Dear Photograph is a very cute site that is all about taking a picture of a picture from the past in the present. It is an awesome idea. You simply find an old, favorite photo and go to exactly the same place the first photograph was taken and take a new one, with the only photo in the new photo. Ha ha, it sounds a bit confusing but the photos below are pretty self explanatory and really are awesome. It is a bit spooky to me when I think about doing it. It freaks me out to go to the exact place and look at the photo of smiling people then to the bare scene in-front of you without the smiling faces. Creepy. But makes you realize how fleeting life actually is. G x

10 Day You Challenge - Day Six

10 Day You Challenge - Day Six -Five Foods

1. Italian! I love garlic, I love Parmigiano, I love pizza, I love pasta! So Italian for me is like heaven on earth. Lasagna been my all time, most favorite meal in the world!

2. Anything chocolate and pretty much all desserts. I have a very big sweet tooth.

3. Popcorn.

4. Tea. Sigh. My. Life. force.

5. Chips. This is my food weakness! Unfortunately for me. I try not to indulge to much in this weakness as chips are not the healthiest but I am afraid they make my taste buds very happy.

6. Tai and Indian food. I can't choose. After Italian I simply adore all Tai and Indian food. I love chili and the sweet and sour flavor of tai, as well as the use of fresh veg and ginger. And I love the spicy chili flavor of Indian food. Indian food always seems to comfort my belly.

(7. Bonus secret food love - I love prawns, ribs and biltong! Been a vegetarian this is really quite a problem for me :) I have not eaten either of these tasty treats in about 13 years!! But I have this fear and desire that one day all my nerve and will power will crumble and I will binge eat!! And maybe even form some kind of allergy due to over indulgence :) )

Wakkaberry!!!

Ok I found this cute little place about a month ago, have been meaning to blog about it for a while now. This place is amazing! It is basically a frozen yogurt bar. (All the yogurt is 98% fat free, which is great because most of the toppings are not :). It is self service, so you can literally go as wild as you like. And they offer every single topping imaginable! Seriously, chocolate, smarties, astros, jelly tots, fruit, nuts, wafers, sauces, carmel....and the list goes on...and on!! Then after you have chosen all your favorites, they weigh your cup and off you go. It is awesome. Whenever I enter those doors I become a kid again and am so overwhelmed with excitement I literally have to give myself a minute to calm down! So if you live in sunny Durbs, do yourself a favor and visit Wakkaberry on Florida, you will not be disappointed!! Here is my last creation, blueberry/strawberry and passion fruit frozen yogurt with astros, jelly tots, strawberries, flake, smarties and hundreds and thousands! Oh yeah baby, a mish-mash of pure heaven! :) G

This weekend I am suggesting a picnic. I simply love them! What is not to love; the beautiful outdoors, sunshine, great company or a good book and tasty little treats. Yum, sounds like a great way to occupy the weekend. Go ahead pack a little something and surprise the one you love. <3 G
